Digital Storytelling

Various ways I’ve done “Digital Marketing.”

I published my first poem at age 18. I’ve been writing stories since my teens. In the 1990s, I decided to become a writing teacher and since then I have gone from typewriter to word processor to HTML and digital video. I have taught Digital Writing to dozens of teachers and taught video production and digital writing to hundreds of students.

These are some ways I have used the various digital storytelling tools to help people market ideas and products.

Riffiti

In 2015, I worked freelance for Riffiti.com, a tech startup based in California focused on a learning app using 30-second videos. Besides interacting with users on the app, I wrote a series of posts to help people visualize ways of interacting with Riffiti.

These are a variety of posts I did:

Sam Jax

I’ve been coaching a friend and former 3 Herons collaborator on ideas surrounding his vision of opening a restaurant/hot sauce company. This summer, we started a YouTube channel. I produced these videos, but I am not in charge of promotion. I have outlined a variety of strategies to promote Sam Jax, but he is hesitant to make any steps forward in the wake of COVID-19.

Local History & Interest:

I’ve been researching and writing about Finger Lakes History for the past decade. I started publishing some articles here on Medium and then began a partnership with Chris Clemons, who runs ExploringUpstate.com. Basically, he’ll publish any article I write because he’s grown to enjoy working with me so much and we both share a great passion for this area.

Seven Valleys Writing Project

I made this slideshow in 2011 that the 7VWP has used over the years for promotion. I argued at the time that we should use actual testimonies of teachers and make a video but the Leadership Council thought that would be too much to make and so we ended up with this. Think about the state of social media in 2011 and how far we’ve come to 2020, then imagine what we will be doing in the next 5 years. This is the kind of imagination that excites me, I want to have a company, a product, and most importantly a local agricultural philosophy to promote.
